Laser Treatments

Our state-of-the-art laser treatments offer a wide range of dermatologic treatments for your skin. The use of lasers in dermatology has increased dramatically in the past decade. This is due to many innovations in technology that allow different lasers to perform different tasks. Lasers can improve many skin lesions, sometimes dramatically. Certain lasers require several treatments to achieve best results, while others may require fewer. Some lasers have minimal recovery time, while others may require more healing time. It is important to discuss the specifics of the condition you wish to treat and the type of laser indicated for this purpose.

Our laser treatments are administered by Dermatology Skin Care Specialists who are professionally trained on each laser treatment we offer. Most importantly they are trained and supervised by Dr. Tallman. We don’t believe that lasers should be operated by anyone without a board-certified dermatologists’ supervision.

Laser treatment times and prices vary according to the area treated. Laser consultations with our Dermatology Skin Care Specialist are complimentary. If you have not seen Dr. Tallman previously, you may need to schedule an office visit before your first treatment.

Fraxel Laser Treatments
Tallman Medical Spa is proud to now offer the Fraxel SR1500 – a powerful upgrade to the Fraxel Laser system that just became available in January of 2007. Dr. Tallman is the first physician in Billings and the surrounding area to have upgraded to this Fractional technology. The Fraxel SR1500 is a more powerful laser that provides better results in less treatment sessions than the traditional Fraxel SR750 Laser. The SR1500 does not use the "blue dye" associated with the other Fraxel technology. Most importantly, the optics of the Fraxel are optimized to deliver powerful treatments with significantly less pain. Our patients are reporting fantastic results and they are much less concerned about discomfort.

Fraxel, or fractional laser skin resurfacing, is a safe and gentle alternative to traditional laser resurfacing. Tallman Medical Spa has found that Fraxel is extremely effective for resolving cosmetic problems which are normally difficult to treat, including:

Acne scars
Pigmentation
Aging skin
Sun damaged skin
Enlarged pores
Fine lines, especially around the mouth and eyes
Melasma

Rather than removing the entire outer layer of skin, as ablative laser resurfacing does, fractional resurfacing uses a very narrow column of light, targeting and destroying microscopic areas while leaving healthy cells surrounding the destroyed intact. This allows for quick healing and reduced pain. The healthy cells left behind aid in the healing process. Collagen production is stimulated, the skin tightens and pigmentation is normalized.

Typically three to five sessions are required (spaced about three to six weeks apart) for complete treatment depending upon skin condition and treatment. This gradual process is safer and healthier for your skin and involves only mild discomfort during the procedure. In order to make sure that your treatment is as pain free as possible, you will have numbing cream placed on the areas being treated for one hour prior to treatment (so plan on arriving early), and cold air will be used during the treatment. After Fraxel treatment, the area treated tends to experience some mild swelling for about two days, followed by about a week of mild to moderate redness and peeling. After the first two days, you look like you have sunburn, which lasts about a week.

During your free initial consultation, our laser technicians will evaluate your unique needs and explain the procedure in detail. You will have the opportunity to view before and after photos to ensure that you will know what to expect from the treatment. After your treatment our staff will instruct you on the best techniques to care for your skin to maintain your healthy new look.

V-Beam Laser Treatments
The V-Beam laser is a pulsed dye laser used to treat conditions such as rosacea, facial or nasal veins, birthmarks, port wine stains, redness in scars, rejuvenation or any other condition with hemoglobin as the primary target.

The light is absorbed by the blood vessels in your dermis. The destroyed vessels are then reabsorbed by the body during the natural healing process.

Side effects from this treatment may include bruising, redness, and swelling in the treated area. These should not last for more than several days. We recommend a minimum of 3 treatments for you to receive optimal results.

Full face $425
Neck $350
Chest minimum $300
Nose or cheeks $150

Yag Laser Treatments

Tattoo Removal
Tattoo removal has evolved to the point that only one laser is required to remove all ink-colors. Tallman Medical Spa has one of the most effective lasers used today for laser tattoo removal. The laser removes tattoo ink using the energy of light. Our Medlite laser removes tattoo inks by generating a variety of specific wavelengths of light that target different ink colors. Light passes into the skin and is absorbed by the ink. The rapid absorption of light energy causes the tattoo ink to break into tiny particles, which can then be removed by the body’s natural filtering systems. The laser can remove professional, amateur and cosmetic tattoos.

On the average, professional tattoos require 6-8 treatments, while amateur tattoos require 4-5 treatments, all spaced approximately 6-8 weeks apart. The number of treatments depends on the amount and type of ink used, and the depth of the ink in the skin.

Clients report a sensation from the light-pulsed energy that is similar to the snap of a small rubber band. The majority of patients do not require anesthesia, but our technicians use a local anesthesia to avoid any unnecessary discomfort.

Following the treatment, the tattoo’s appearance may fade more than 96%, often erasing it completely. Results vary depending on the type of ink used in the tattoo, the depth of its application and the color.

Dark (blue, black) and red inks respond most favorably to the treatment. Oranges & purples usually fade as well. Green, light blue, turquoise and yellow inks are the most challenging to remove and additional treatments are needed to produce significant fading.

The laser provides maximum tattoo removal while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. Occasionally, pinpoint bleeding may be associated with the treatment.

Acne Scarring/Rejuvenation
This procedure uses a non-ablative laser, Nd:Yag, so there is no skin removed. There is minimal discomfort and feels like a warm prickly sensation. The laser stimulates collagen production, resulting in the reduction of acne scars and fine lines. Patients have reported seeing a reduction in their pore size as well. The treatment is safe and effective with little risk of complications. After the treatment, you may experience redness which should fade within an hour. Sun avoidance is recommended and sun protection should be applied regularly. Gentle skin care products should be used to care for your skin after the treatment. For optimal results, we recommend a minimum of 4-6 treatments spaced at least one week apart.

Rejuvenation $350
Acne treatment $100 per treatment
Acne package 6 treatments for $500

Age Spot Removal (lentigos)
Facial Yag Peel:
For this treatment we use the Nd:Yag Laser. The light from the laser is absorbed by the pigmented lesion, & the unwanted pigment is then destroyed. This will either remove or lighten the lesion.

During the treatment, you may feel some heat, stinging or a prickling sensation. When treating an entire area such as the face, a topical numbing cream is used to lessen the discomfort of the procedure. The spot(s) will become darker over the next couple of days and it will take an average of 10-14 days for spots to slough off. You can do everything that you would normally do, however the first few days, do not scrub or pick at the lesions. It is important not to pick at them because it will not allow the lesions to heal properly and will increase the risk of scarring. You absolutely must wear a good sun block while allowing the entire sloughing process.

One or two treatments is usually enough to treat most lesions, but some deeper lesions may require more treatments. This procedure does not work for melasma and cannot be performed on tanned or colored skin.

1-10 spots $150
11-20 spots $225
21-50 spots $350
51-100 spots $500
Full face $750

Gentle Lase: Permanent hair reduction
This treatment works best on dark colored hair. It will not work on blonde, red or gray hair. Even light brown is hard for the laser to detect.

The average number of treatments needed is between 6 and 8, with a minimum of 4 weeks in between treatments.

Patients should avoid electrolysis or waxing for 6 weeks prior to treatment and in between treatments. There should be no more than 2 days of growth in the treatment area and we request that the area be cleaned prior to arrival. We recommend avoiding sun exposure before and after treatment as you run the risk of hypo pigmentation of the skin. We are unable to laser tan or dark-colored skin.
